How to Extract Pages from a PDF

Sometimes you only need part of a PDF — a single page, a chapter, or a few specific sections. Instead of sharing the whole document, you can extract exactly the pages you need into a new file.

How to Extract Pages

  1. Go to pdftoolshq.com/extract-pages
  2. Upload your PDF
  3. Enter the pages you want to extract — single pages (e.g. 3), ranges (e.g. 3-7), or a mix (e.g. 1, 3, 5-8)
  4. Download the new PDF containing only those pages

The original file is unchanged. The extracted pages become a new standalone document.

Extract vs Split — What’s the Difference?

These two operations are related but different:
Extract pages — you choose specific pages and they become one new document. The rest of the PDF is discarded. Best when you need a specific subset of pages.
Split PDF — divides a document into multiple files. The Split PDF tool can split every page into its own file, or split at specific page numbers into defined sections. Best when you need to divide a document into multiple parts.
Use Extract when you want one specific section. Use Split when you want to divide the whole document.

Common Use Cases

Sharing a single chapter — extract just the chapter pages from a long report before emailing.
Pulling an invoice from a statement — bank statements and billing documents often bundle multiple invoices together. Extract the specific invoice pages you need for expense reporting.
Separating a cover page — extract everything except the cover page to share the content without branding, or extract just the cover page for design purposes.
Archiving specific pages — contracts often have one key page with the signatures and terms. Extract that page for quick reference without keeping the entire document accessible.

Extracting Non-Consecutive Pages

The extract tool supports non-consecutive page selection. Enter pages as a comma-separated list: 1, 5, 9, 12 extracts only those four pages into one document in that order.
You can also combine ranges and individual pages: 1-3, 7, 10-12 extracts pages 1 through 3, page 7, and pages 10 through 12.

After Extracting

Extracted pages sometimes inherit metadata from the original document including the original page numbers. If you want the extracted document to have its own numbering starting from 1, run it through the Add Page Numbers tool after extracting.
If the extracted document is going to be shared externally, also consider whether it needs a password or watermark.
